Welcome to the first edition of the DIT Portugal Newsflash!

This new channel aims to highlight our work in this diverse and exciting country, build a greater sense of community and highlight future opportunities.

Portugal remains vital to UK interests – our tasks are to help deliver a smooth EU Exit, build on our good existing bilateral relationships and grow trade and investment between our countries.

On a regular basis DIT will bring you updated information, particularly on the changes in trade that will apply after the end of the Transition Period.

Preparing for end of the Transition Period
 
 
Border Operating Model: What has changed?
 
 
 
 
On 23 September 2020 DIT hosted a webinar on UK's Border Operating Model.

The event gathered over 600 business, government, and industry stakeholders from across Europe to hear about border controls to be implemented at the end of the Transition Period.

On 8 October 2020, the UK Government published an update of the Border Operating Model. This latest iteration provides additional information in a number of key areas as well as clarifying a number of questions from industry.

It also includes a compiling policy paper setting out the core model that all importers and exporters need to follow from January 2021.

The UK has left the EU. There is now a Transition Period until the end of 2020 while the UK and EU negotiate additional arrangements.

The current rules on trade, travel, and business for the UK and EU will continue to apply during the Transition Period.

New rules will take effect on 1 January 2021.

On 30 September 2020 DIT Portugal hosted, at the British Ambassador’s Residence, a Roundtable on the Theme: Touchless Economy & COVID 19: Is there a War on Cash?

DIT Portugal hosted a Roundtable on the Theme: “Touchless Economy & COVID 19: Is there a War on Cash?” featuring an overview of the theme Touchless Economy followed by a discussion on Contactless Payments and the role of Cash by Bank of Portugal, the Portuguese main Payments Processor (SIBS) and industry experts from British companies operating in Portugal (Ebury, Paysafe Group and Revolut).

The Event was video recorded and widely disseminated to Portuguese stakeholders as well as in all DIT social media channels.

The FDI VC Matchmaking programme is a Europe-wide campaign designed to facilitate conversations between European companies wishing to raise capital and expand to the UK and UK Venture Capital Funds.
